There is literally an arms race in the military use of AI, but also an AI arms race between commercial companies. Having the best AI may give massive commercial advantage either in terms of user experience (such as the runaway dominance of Google search due to the PageRank algorithm) or for behind the scenes activity such as the sue in advertisment placement.
